In this episode of Yoab, we tackle one of the most common habits that steals our peace of mind without us even realizing it: comparing ourselves to others, especially on social media.
Comparison can sometimes be a source of inspiration and motivation, but it becomes a problem when it breeds jealousy, feelings of inadequacy, self-criticism, or even hostility towards others.
In this episode, you'll learn three key strategies for dealing with social comparison:
Distinguish between inspiring and self-destructive comparison: Are you learning or punishing yourself?
Review your environment and sources of comparison: Reduce random browsing, clean up your follow list, don't start your day with social media, and avoid negativity.
Make yourself your standard: The best comparison is "I am better today than yesterday," not comparing your circumstances to others.
Episode exercise:
Write: What triggers your comparisons? How do you feel after comparing yourself? What step will you take this week to reduce negative comparisons?
If you remember someone who is burdened by comparison and puts themselves down, send them this episode—it could be the start of something positive for them.
